DStv Explora Switch (5-1) and Connections
The DStv Switch (5-1) is bought separately and converts normal LNB to UniCable. It can only connect to one DStv Explora at a time
- 4 LNB inputs (H/L, VL, HH & V/H)
- 2 DStv Explora outputs: can ONLY be connected to DStv Explora, NOT designed to work on other decoder models
- 4 Multiswitch outputs: each output signals a signal equivalent to a normal Multiswitch output or a single LNB output
- On light: the blue light switches on when the DStv Switch (5-1) is powered. It does, however, not indicate whether the switch is getting sufficient signal
- Unused ports do not need to be capped (covered) as the DStv Switch (5-1) self terminates any unused ports
- The DStv Switch (5-1) is not required when connecting DStv Explora to the existing single cable distribution system found in MUDS and SMUDS, however, this is dependent on the installation setup by the body corporate concerned
- DStv Switch (5-1) is not a signal booster
How to Connect a DStv Switch (5-1) from the satellite dish to the DStv Explora
DStv Explora requires an IS20 (satellite footprint used for DStv services in Southern Africa) Installation. Different DStv territories have different satellite footprints
LNB TYPE | DSTV SWITCH REQUIRED |
TWIN LNB | YES |
QUAD LNB | YES |
QUATTRO LNB | YES |
SatCR / UniCable LNB | NO |
DStv Switch (5-1), can only connect to 1 DStv Explora.
DStv Explora will however not work when connected to a single feed from a single LNB, even if the feed is split.
- The maximum cable length between the DStv Switch and DStv Explora should be less than 50 meters
- Maximum cable length between 2 DStv Switch (when cascading to connect 2 Explora 1’s should be less than 50 centimeters
